This 200-hour, Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training course will introduce you to best practices in Utility Vegetation Management This course is designed to enhance the understanding and application of safety, integrated vegetation management, tree identification, tree biology, proper pruning techniques, safe equipment operations, tree climbing techniques and customer service.

Trainees will receive certificates in:

  • Flagger
  • OSHA 10
  • Electrical Hazard Awareness (EHAP) 
  • First Aid & CPR.

Hands on training includes:

  • Utility Arborist ANSIZ133 Safety Standards
  • 3-Way Safety Communications
  • Utility Best Management Practice (BMP) Tree Identification
  • Climbing and Limb Walking
  • Bucket Truck Operations
  • Chainsaw and Chipper Operations

This free, 80-hour course prepares participants with the technical knowledge and real-world field skills required to patrol power lines and ensure vegetation clearance compliance. Designed for individuals seeking a stable, high-paying career in utility forestry, this training equips learners to step confidently into the role of a Consulting Utility Forester.

  • Understand tree biology, identification, risk assessment, and utility-related safety regulations.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be committed to obtaining a Class A permit/license, or Class B with Air Brakes before program completion
  • Follow Butte College student conduct policies
  • Attend all sessions on time (two late arrivals or absences will result in disqualification)
  • Engage in class activities and study outside of scheduled hours
  • Complete required participant surveys (for program improvement and grant compliance; all data is secure and confidential)

A GED or high school diploma is not required to enroll.
